Johnny Manziel facing lawsuit for trashing L.A. rental house
  • NFL null

Johnny Manziel’s offseason of greatest moments continued Friday when TMZ reported the former Browns quarterback is facing a lawsuit for causing "extensive damage" to a Los Angeles home he rented in April.

Nicholas Goodwin of The Goodwin Group Inc. is seeking more than $40,000 in damages, his attorney said.

Manziel, going by the alias "Travis," stayed at the 5,000-square-foot property April 4-6 and assur夜网论坛ed Goodwin the home would only be for personal use. However, Goodwin told ESPN in April that surveillance footage "shows that Mr. Manziel threw large parties on both nights, causing extensive damage to the subject property” and “evidence suggests that Mr. Manziel and his guests were consuming drugs and alcohol on the property."

Burn marks, wine stains and a broken door totaled over $19,000 in damage to the home, according to Goodwin.

ESPY Awards 2016: Lindsey Vonn jokes about J.J. Watt, 'groin' massages
  • NFL

The ESPYs are wholly unnecessary. These athletes have already been honored by those who cover their respective sports wall to wall. During the slowest sports week of the year, however, they provide a night of cheap entertainment. Wednesday's pre-show shenanigans are a prime example.

    MORE: 2016  NFL Coaching Rankings

Apparently, Lindsey Vonn is picking up whatever J.J. Watt is putting down.

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year and the Olympic gold medalist were interviewed together on the red carpet and Vonn made what many would consider a pretty strong pass at football's preeminent pass rusher.

Watt can anticipate a snap count like no one else, but he didn't see this one coming at all. It started as a simple question posed by ESPN's Hannah Storm about Watt playing through myriad injuries. Vonn took it elsewhere.

    Ch夜网论坛eck out the exchange.

    And there's that.

Peterson leaves Sunday Night Football with injury
  • NFL null null null null

The Minnesota Vikings might still be holding their breath after watching running back Adrian Peterson being helped off the field Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers.

Peterson went down in the third quarter after a short run. H夜网论坛e tried to get back up, but he was unable to put any weight on his right leg as he left the field.

Shortly after Peterson left, Sam Bradford found Stefon Diggs in the end zone to increase the Vikings' lead to 17-7. However, while Diggs was celebrating his touchdown, Peterson was shown on the broadcast being carried down the tunnel and into the locker room, still unable to put weight on his leg. Trainers examined the right, outside part of his knee.

The Vikings announced Peterson would not return to the game with an injury to the knee, which bent awkwardly at the end of the run, as did his right ankle.

Jarvis Landry on Aaron Williams: Dirtiest hit of the year?
  • NFL

Jarvis Landry felt bad about doing this to Aaron Williams. That's ... a start, maybe.

That was Landry headbutting Williams during the Dolphins' game against the Bills on Sunday. He went high and left his feet for the crack-back block when he absolutely did not need to do 夜网论坛so. It's the "defenseless player" rule writ large.

To make things worse, Williams missed 13 games with concussion-related issues last year and left the game. His return was questionable.

Fox officiating analyst Mike Pereira said that while the hit was illegal, it was still a football play.

Derek Jeter supports Colin Kaepernick's protests

Through all his exploits on and off the field, Derek Jeter remained indifferent when it came to joining a conversation on social issues during his playing career.

Now retired, the former Yankees great has devoted much of his time to helping athletes hone their voice, and if they want to use it speak out for change, like 49ers quarterback Coli夜网论坛n Kaepernick has done on a grand scale this NFL season, he sees no problem with it.

Colin Kaepernick didn't vote in the election

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, criticized as "un-American" for kneeling during the national anthem this NFL season, won't exercise his right to vote in the presidential election, he told reporters Tuesday.

Johnny Manziel shows flashes in 'fun' CFL debut
  • CFL null NFL 夜网论坛 null

Johnny Manziel is adjusting to life in the Canadian Football League one throw at a time.

The former NFL quarterback completed 9 of 11 passes for 80 yards in his CFL preseason debut Friday, but he failed to lead the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to points on any of his five offensive possessions.

Still, Manziel felt his performance was another step in the right direction as he continues to learn the nuances of the game north of the border.

"It was good," Manziel said in a fourth-quarter sideline interview with TSN's Matthew Scianitti. "Getting out there and seeing the field, seeing how these routes play out in a game vs. practice. I felt like I missed a couple things, but had some completions, led a little bit of a drive right there. I don’t know if intentional grounding is different up here than it is back in the States, but that was frustrating. Just learning the game, feeling it out. It was fun, though, I had a good time."

NFL world reacts to Cody Parkey's missed field goal
  • null NFL null null null

Bears kicker Cody Parkey's missed 43-yard field goal that bounced off the upright and crossbar served as a devastating conclusion to Chicago's worst-to-first season in the NFC North.

On the other side of things, it moved the Eagles onto the divisional round of the postseason and closer to their quest to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

Parkey's miss was preceded by Super Bowl 52 MVP Nick Foles' go-ahead touchdown pass to Golden Tate that put Philadelphia up for good.

Eric Reid sounds like he's infuriated with Jay Z and Roc Nation's NFL deal
  • NFL null null

Eric Reid doesn't sound happy with Jay Z and Roc Nation.

On the day it was announced the rapper, producer and entrepreneur and his company had agreed to a deal with the NFL, the Panthers' safety had some harsh words in response.

In a story released by ESPN, Jay Z was asked about the ramifications of agreeing to a deal with the NFL, an organization that recently was involved in (and settled on) a civil lawsuit with quarterback Colin Kaepernick. That lawsuit alleged collusion between team owners to not sign the former 49ers signal-caller due to his taking a knee during the national anthem.

"For me it's like action, (an) actionable item, what are we gonna do with it?" Jay Z said. "Everyone heard, we hear what you're saying, and everybody knows I agree with what you're saying (in Kaepernick's underlying message). So what are we gonna do? You know what I'm saying? (Help) millions and millions of people, or we get stuck on Colin not having a job."

The NFL's deal with Roc Nation will — in Jay Z's paraphrased words — "amplify the league's Inspire Change initiative for social justice. And the opportunity to potentially accomplish big things and uplift many in communities important to him was an opportunity he couldn't ignore."
