Not even Tom Brady is safe from Patriots' trade habits, and he knows it
  • NFL

Few outside the Patriots' organization saw it coming. Jamie Collins was traded to the Browns on Monday, and only after the fact did those in and around New England express displeasure with the linebacker.

That won't happen to Tom Brady — the smear campaign, that is. But the future Hall of Fame quarterback knows he too (eventually) might suffer the same trade fate.

MORE: Patriots dominating NFL awards ballot

"Yeah, absolutely," Brady said Wednesday when asked whether he thinks he might someday be traded from the Patriots, via the Boston Herald. "You can't be around this long and not realize that the world will keep spinning and the sun will come up tomorrow without you. That's just the way it goes.

"I think you enjoy the experiences that you have and also understand it just keeps going on. It could happen to anybody. You just have to show up to work, do the best you can do every day and let your performance just try to speak for itself."

And Brady should know. He's seen a bunch of Patriots, including star players, sent away via trade or release before the ends of their contracts during his 17-year NFL career. NFL.com's Marc Sessler pointed out those names Monday, after Collins was traded.

Of course, we think Brady is safe in New England as long as he's putting up[......]

Tony Romo is no longer a savior for the Cowboys — or anyone else
  • NFL

Here we go again with Tony Romo vs. Dak Prescott, because when it's a Cowboys quarterback controversy, it's a quarterback controversy that won't go away.

Here's what needs to go away: The thinking that Romo is needed for Dallas to take it to the so-called next level this season. And trying to link him with every QB-needy team for next season.

MORE: Week 15 NFL Power Rankings

Even with Prescott having his first truly bad game of the season in Sunday's key division loss to the Giants, there's no reason to think about the possibility of Romo.

Dallas is still playoff bound, still likely the NFC East champion and No. 1 seed because of what Prescott did in the 11 games before, and can do in the three games after. One bad night isn't something that should prompt consideration to mess with team chemistry so late in the season.

The Cowboys had the opportunity to make the change before getting in too deep, in anticipation of Prescott having a typical rookie struggle at some point. They already passed. But Jerry Jones, that sly devil, is good at leaving the QB debate and discussion open enough so his team remains the talk of the league when nothing has really changed.

Everyone in Romo vs. Prescott II is only looking at the Dak side of things. The Romo reality remains, at 36 and coming off multiple back surgeries, that there's no guarantee he'll stay on the field as soon as he steps back on it, let alone being able to pick[......]

Julian Edelman's Hall of Fame case isn't as crazy as you think
  • NFL null null null

ATLANTA — In the Patriots' offensively challenged, 13-3 victory over the Rams in Super Bowl 53, wide receiver Julian Edelman was New England’s best player, catching 10 of his 12 targets for 141 yards. He was deserving of his recognition as the game's most valuable player.

But Edelman being named Super Bowl MVP a few months ago started another debate: whether he will be deserving of higher accolades in the future with an induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. ESPN's Adam Schefter fueled the social-media conversation when he claimed on the night of the Super Bowl that Edelman "is playing himself into a spot in Canton."

    Huh?

Edelman, 32, really has played just four and a half effective, healthy seasons. He has never been named to a Pro Bowl. He is 148th in NFL history with his 499 regular-season receptions, 20th among players likely to be active in 2019. He ranks 248th in career receiving yards and has only 30 career touchdowns. Edelman doesn't seem to have qualifications to raise himself from seventh-round draft pick out of Kent State to pro football immortal.

    Well, except in one area.

NFL Week 6 Sunday Huddle: Deshaun Watson wins QB duel vs. Chiefs; 49ers top Rams to stay undefeated
  • NFL null null null null

A quarterback duel erupted in Kansas City Sunday and Deshaun Watson was the signal-caller to come out on top.

The matchup between Watson and the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes pitted two of the NFL's most dynamic quarterbacks against each other and it made for an exciting matchup featuring — you guessed it — some big throws and big carries. But ultimately Watson and company came away with a 31-24 win at Arrowhead Stadium.

Thanks, in part, to 21 unanswered points from the Texans in the second quarter. Watson continued to roll and helped put Houston ahead for good with a short one-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth.

Watson finished 30-of-42 passing for 280 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also had 42 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.

Mahomes finished 19-of-35 passing for 273 yards, three touchdowns and one interception for his first pick of the year.

Eagles draft picks 2020: Who did Philadelphia take? Full list of NFL Draft selections
  • Eagles NFL NFL Draft

The Eagles filled a big need at wide receiver in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, selecting TCU's Jalen Reagor. But they made a lot more noise with their second-round pick, taking Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts.

While there were some questions about Reagor's selection over players like Tee Higgins and Justin Jefferson, his role in Philadelphia's offense is pretty clear. But that's not the case with Hurts. Is he supposed to replace the oft-injured Carson Wentz? Is he going to a Taysom-Hill-esque gadget player? Is here merely a backup?

While Hurts probably dominated most of the conversation among Eagles fans, Philadelphia selected 10 total players in the 2020 Draft, which means there will be lots of other questions regarding roles in the preseason.

Here's a look at where the Eagles will be picking in the 2020 NFL Draft along with updated selections:

Russell Wilson shares emotions on 'murdered' George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor
  • NFL Seahawks

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson showed Wednesday how much he has been affected by the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.

"I don't want to talk about football. I think about the pain of George, I think about Ahmaud, I think about Breonna. I think about these people that have been hurt . . . and murdered, and it's just a lot of pain on my heart right now," a dour Wilson said on a media conference call (per Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times).

Floyd's death last week at the knee of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, following the highly publicized shooting deaths of Arbery and Taylor, has ignited protests and riots across the country. Seattle has been one of the areas of violence. Wilson said he wished he could have joined the protesters there "who are getting brutally abused."
