Rangers prospect Joey Gallo headed to majors Tuesday
  • Baseball Another highly touted third base prospect is headed to the majors.Joey Gallo will be added to the Rangers' roster Tuesday, general manager Jon Daniels told 105.3 The Fan Monday afternoon. The 21-year-old has never played above Double-A but presumably will step in for Adrian Beltre, who will miss at least two weeks with a thumb injury suffered Sunday.MORE: Jose Fernandez dominates extended spring training | The 10 worst basebal夜网论坛l teams of the past 30 years Like fellow Las Vegas native Kris Bryant, who was called up by the Cubs in mid-April and has been destroying baseballs ever since, Gallo is considered an elite power-hitting prospect. He hit 42 home runs across two levels in the minors last season and is batting .314/.425/.636 with nine homers in 34 games for Double-A Frisco this season. No one expected him to arrive in the majors this soon, though. Gallo will have to be added to the Rangers' 40-man roster Tuesday to be activated. But he figures to get regular playing time while Beltre is sidelined; the Rangers wouldn't call him up or start his service-time clock to let him idle on the bench.[......]

College World Series 2015: ESPN analyst calls LSU 'most complete team'
  • LSU, winners of 30 of its last 35 games, is "probably the most complete team" playing in the college World Series, former All-Star Aaron Boone said. Defending champ Vanderbilt also should be there in the end, according to the current ESPN baseball analyst.Arkansas, Virginia, Miami, Florida, TCU and Cal State Fullerton round out the eight-team field, one Boone feels has six or seven legitimate contenders. The College World Series begins Saturday in Omaha, Neb. COLLEGE WORLD SERIES 2015: Times, TV schedule | Full list of teamsBut while the Tigers and Commodores look good, the field is wide open, Boone told Sporting News. This season, the NCAA switched to flat-seamed baseballs similar to 's, and it's led to a resurgence in offense. Because of reduced rebound in aluminum bats starting in 2011, offense had been way down, resulting in almost no parity. This year, Boone said that won't be the case."The field is as good as its been in years, and the ball has a lot to do with it," Boone said. "I don't want to say flukes, but there are teams that are more likely to sneak in because offense is back."Moreso, Boone is happy to see another crop of talent-rich players and teams gather in Omaha. He narrowly missed out on playing in the College World Series twice as a USC Trojan, but has enjoyed his time there as a fan and broadcaster."This is a festival with high-quality baseball sprinkled in," said Boone, who is also helping promote the Allstate Good Hands program, which will d[......]
