Report: 76ers' Butler expected to decline player option
  • NBA null Basketball

It appears like Jimmy Butler could be preparing to test the free agency waters.

The 76ers guard is expected to decline the player option in his deal with Philadelphia, according to a report from Yahoo Sports, which cites unidentified league sources. Butler has until June 29th to opt out of the $19.8 million he's set to receive in the final year of his five-year contract he signed in 2015 as a member of the Bulls.

Butler, 29, would easily become a highly coveted piece should he enter the market as an unrestricted free agent. The four-time All-Star is an elite, two-way wing who averaged 18.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the 76ers in 2018-19 — after forcing his way out of Minnesota last November.

He elevated his play in the postseason and averaged 19.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists en route to Philadelphia's Eastern Conference semifinals appearance. But the 76ers ultimately lost to the Raptors in seven games. Butler's leadership and composure in the clutch was essential to their playoff push, th夜网论坛ough.

Philadelphia was expecting Butler to decline as he's made it clear he'd like to pursue as much money as he can.

“Knock on wood, I will get a max contract no matter where I go,” Butler stated at his exit i[......]

    Warriors offseason: Big issues

The free-agency bonanza of 2019 was always going to have a huge impact on the Warriors moving forward, but they could never have anticipated just how complicated it would become.

This was supposed to be the summer of Kevin Durant, who could leave the Bay Area with two rings and two NBA Finals MVP awards in his trophy case. Then Durant went down in Game 5 of the NBA Finals with a ruptured Achilles, an injury that will have major ramifications for the entire league.

The Warriors can offer Durant familiarity as he recovers and goes through a lengthy rehabilitation process. They possess a championship roster and organization, a supermax contract and a chance to play in the brand-new Chase Center in San Francisco.

But Golden State isn't even the betting favorite to sign Durant. New York is seen as KD's most likely destination, which doesn't come as much of a surprise considering Durant-to-the-Knicks rumors have been flying around all season. The Clippers and Nets are preparing to chase Durant as well, so the Warriors will have plenty of competition. The injury shouldn't stop suitors from throwing a lot of money his way.

Ex-Duke star RJ Barrett ready for Knicks pressure
  • NBA null null Basketball null

RJ Barrett isn't worried about the scrutiny that accompanies becoming a Knicks player, pointing out that he already was a media sensation at Duke.

Barrett, 19, was selected by the Knicks with the third overall pick in Thursday's NBA Draft, having seen former Duke teammate Zion Williamson go to the  Pelicans with the No. 1 selection.

New York hasn't won a championship since 1973 and last made the playoffs in 2013, meaning there is significant pressure on the highly rated Barrett to deliver at Madison Square Garden.

But the interest in Duke — with Barrett, Williamson and Cam Reddish on the same team — means the new Knicks star believes he is ready.

"I call New York just a bigger version of Toronto," s夜网论坛aid Barrett, a native of Canada. "I'm kind of used to it already.

"When it comes to everything on the court with the fan base and everything, I just feel like I went to Duke and we got a lot of attention.
