Today's DFS Picks: Top values for DraftKings, FanDuel daily fantasy baseball contests

Baseball We have a solid eight-game DFS slate on Thursday that is interesting in that Justin Verlander is the only “good” pitching option and a virtual must-play in cash games. However, in tournaments it’s completely viable to fade Verlander and stack up some of the high-priced offenses, many of whom are in excellent breakout spots. Outside of Verlander, Johnny Cueto is the next best pitching pick in terms of raw talent, but he will be making his first start in over two months and will likely be on a strict pitch count, making him tough to roster given his price point on both FanDuel and DraftKings. For the bats, the Nationals have the highest implied run total on the slate at 5.0 runs in a great matchup with young Marlins righty Pablo Lopez. The matchup between the Rangers and Tigers is also a tasty one, with both teams throwing less-than-stellar pitchers in Yovani Gallardo and Mathew Boyd. Both teams have high implied run totals that currently sit at 4.7 runs. The great hitting options don’t end there, with the Braves, Twins, and Diamondbacks also sitting in good spots.  MORE DFS: SN DFS | Lineup BuilderAs always, there's plenty of strategy that goes into putting together a winning DFS lineup, and the best place to start is RotoQL’s DFS tools. DFS Picks: FanDuel, DraftKings values for Thursday, July 5Max Fried, LHP, Braves @ Brewers (DK: $7,500 | FD: $5,900)The pitching options tonight outside of Justin Verlander get sketchy in a hurry. In cash games jamming Verlander in needs to be a priority, but I’m also looking toward Braves lefty Max Fried for an SP2 on DraftKings and as a GPP pivot on FanDuel. Fried doesn’t have an easy matchup with the Brewers, but he has been a strikeout machine since coming into the Braves starting rotation, posting 17 Ks in his last 11.2 innings. He currently has the third highest RotoQL projection on slate at 15.0 DraftKings points. Logan Morrison, 1B, Twins vs. Orioles (DK: $3,500 | FD: $2,700)The Twins have one of the best matchups of the night against Orioles righty Andrew Cashner, and Morrison is a great value option batting in the heart of the Twins lineup. Lo-Mo has shown excellent power upside against righthanded pitchers throughout his career and has posted a .203 ISO against RHP over his past 180 at-bats. He has also been a steady fantasy producer, evidenced by his plus-minus of plus-1.0 fantasy points per game against righthanded starters since the start of last season. Michael A. Taylor, OF, Nationals vs. Marlins (DK: $3,800 | FD: $2,700)The Nationals are in a bit of a free fall right now but are in an excellent get-right spot tonight in a matchup with Marlins righty Pablo Lopez. Lopez is a reverse splits pitcher and has had struggles against righthanded batters both during his short time in majors and in the minor leagues. Taylor has been excellent against righties this season, posting a plus-minus of plus-1.4 fantasy points against righthanded starters since the start of last season. There’s a chance that Taylor doesn’t get the start in favor of Adam Eaton, who is a little more expensive across the industry, but both are in play in all formats.Cory Spangenberg, 2B/3B, Padres @ Diamondbacks (DK: $3,400 | FD: $2,200)The Padres are an interesting team to target to save some salary and help you jam Justin Verlander into your lineup. They have a great matchup with Diamondbacks righty Shelby Miller, who continues to struggle since coming back from Tommy John surgery. The lefties in the Padres lineup are the preferred targets here, and Spangenberg is a tremendous value, especially for only $2,200 on FanDuel. Spangenberg has extreme splits that favor him against righthanded pitching, and he has posted a plus-minus of plus-1.1 fantasy points against righthanded starters since the start of last season.
