Ben McAdoo on Giants' sack total: Stats are for losers

NFL null

The Giants have only nine sacks all season, ranking 31st in the NFL.

Some observers expected more from a team that in the offseason signed high-priced free agents Olivier Vernon and Damon Harrison to bolster the defensive line.

But when a reporter asked coach Ben McAdoo on Friday about the low sack total given the team's big D-line investment, McAdoo brushed off the question with a classic response.

"We say it all the time, really: Stats are for losers," McAdoo said, via "We need to make the quarterback uncomfortable. We need to make him move, make him chatter his feet, make him early

with the throws. Numbers are numbers."

The legendary author Mark Twain, who popularized the expression, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics," would undoubtedly be proud of McAdoo.
